PostSubject: logging in issues    Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:31 pm

hey admin, i wanted to ask you if you could post a "how to properly log in" response for the new members of the site. i know it sounds weird but some of my friends are having trouble logging in on this site (possibly due to a misunderstanding) if we have a somewhat detailed explanation as to how to log in, i can point a few more people in this direction.

again, i know it seems very out there but if you can just explain how it works or something.

Ok dark first I need to know precisely what the problem is for them.I mean registering couldnt be more simple but I think one of the main issues that MOST people that sign up are having is email confirmation.A little later on(either today or tommorrow) I will be sending out mass emails to all of out members reminding them to always go to their emails after signing up to click the confirmation link in the email sent to them.A good friend of mine was telling me that on his social website like nearly a third of sign ups were unsuccessful because people would just fill in and submit their information but never go to their inbox and confirm their emailto link with their account.

So again make sure that EVERYONEyou sign up is reminded to ALWAYS confirm their email in the automated link sent to them from our forums.Wewill start trying to fix the problem from there,if any more issues arise pls by all means let me know buddy and thank you for informing me of these problems because they are something that I suspected was happening all along.

Question I dont understand what you mean? How is it screwing them?I mean it should be a simple register and email confirmation system.

Are they confirming their account in the email activation link sent to them?

There shouldnt be any problems once they confirm there email.

They need to remember and you need to remind them that its a two part system.Signing up just isnt enough.YOU HAVE TO CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL BEFORE YOUR MEMBERSHIP SHOWS UP IN THE REGISTRY AND BEFORE YOU CAN POST.

Otherwise have them describe what exactly it is they are having trouble with.

Colt, I don't know if Me and Dark's having the
same issue. But, I have 2 newly sign ups stat-
ing that when they try to login, it keeps saying
that their accounts doesn't exist. I'm thinking
that they actually didn't confirm their email ad
-dress, but I don't want to say that their lying
either, lol. I don't know man and I'm kind of at
a lost here. So, what do you think?

Well I'll put it like this,if these new sign ups names appear in the registry(which you can find both at the bottom of the home page and in the memberlist link)then they are properly signed up with confirmed email and if still having trouble signing in then its another problem possibly such as forgotten password or screen name or something else.

However if they say they've signed up and you ask them what name name they've registered themselves as and you dont see it anywhere in the registry then that means that they didnt confirm their email link and likely only confirmed the profile basic info pages.

This happens for some sad reason to about a third of the people that I have tried to sign up as well.It really just depends on the type of person your dealing with. Some are witty and follow instructions well some are slow and couldnt pour pee out of a boot with instuctions written on the side Laughing .With most PhBB server type websites the account sign up is a 2 part process and email confirmation helps gaurd against auto spam bots and trolls with multiple accounts.

Infact give me the names (meaning the names they said they signed up with) and I can check them in the tool box as soon as I get them thx Wink and thx for letting me know

Thats a tricky question but I believe that unless an administrator bans an IP pretty much all the info comes and goes with a single account, especially on a basic website such as this so then yea you should be able to.

The good thing about anyone who is having any kids of diffculties going in is that the adminstrative team has full access to the acocount so if need be we can usually just reenter their info for them, send it to them and them(new password included) and then let them change it back the way they want it once that log on.

Whew! what a relief, cause I'm pretty sure we
would've lost Erika, if shhe had to sign up on a
different email address.

Oh, I didn't know that, I thought only you, Stry
-ker, Lilly and Peter had that authority.

I dotn understand....what does it matter?all she has to do is go in and change he info. What do you mean we lost her? What she cant sign in?or does she even want to?Because if she is genuinely interested in signing up here I can go into her new account and help her out but Im not about to waste time if she is just another one of those ghosts that sign up to get whatever it is you are promising them and then disappears never to be heard from again Neutral lol

No if she already deleted and started over all she has to do now is confirm her email and she should be ok.Also this version allows screen name editting as you already know meaning that the name you signed on with is not neccessarily your permanent member name so she doesnt have to delete an account if she did for that.

And you misunderstand what admin is lol.Its different from officer or moderator. You see there are different levels of command and provledges within those commands.Administrators are those who have total access to a website's editting tools, security and moderation;they can act as member or officer of the forum.Moderators are a step below, they have access to security and moderation but cannot access the administrative control panel nor can they ban members. They can also be restricted to only being able to moderate certain areas of the site or given full access. And officers are promotion only rankign officials who may or may not hold higher leadership positions but never the less by word of mouth of the leaders of the group(usualy administratives) are the co-leaders of speicific parts, sub groups or sub operations within the organization.

That being said the only administrators her are me,Peter(for now) and Stryker(who is so busy answering 999 emergency calls in London that he is never here lol Rolling Eyes Laughing ).
