PostSubject: North Korea opens fire on South Korea....now what?   Tue Nov 23, 2010 5:35 pm

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/11/23/nkorea.skorea.military.fire/index.html?hpt=T1

Ok so yesterday(or today for us)for reasons unknown, the North Korean military unleashed a barage of artillery shells on a tiny island called Yeonpyeong which is controlled, patrolled and occupied by South Korean Marine units. The island which is located in the Yellow Sea is considered part of S.K. territory. After what government officials in Seoul are calling an unprovoked attack by Pyongyang, the question now is..."Is this a declaration of war or will it be interpreted that way?".

Following the deadly attack that killed 2 South Korean soldiers and wounded 18 others,S.K. answered back with more than 80 rounds of its own artillery and the deployment of fighter jets to the area.

The U.S. military who was in the area at the time but not affected by the shelling has also been put on high alert status, sending an entire battle group full of Naval vessels to the Yellow Sea following the incident.

President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea said that the early morning incident is considered "An invasion of"S.K. and should be met with "immidiate retaliatory action.Foreign diplomats including U.N. and White House officials however are strongly urging against any experdiant military action by Seoul besides the ones that have already taken place.Although President Obama did condemn the attacks, his administration has now been thrust into yet another foreign situation with serious implications for his presidency as well as the international community.Should the U.S. intervene?especially militarily?

I personally see these latest developments coming out of Asia as extremely suspicious seeing that the U.S. has been engaged in a war or conflict every single decade since WW2 and the 1940's and that our forces are just now after 7 long years begginning to pull out of Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Was this just a coencidence or is it some kind of back room plot by the powers that be to indirectly give the U.S. a reason to get involved in yet another war for yet another decade?

In my opinion before anyone jump the gun on this, the best thing to do is see how North Korea responds and answers to its actions seeing that there has been no official staement and remain calm until then......because the last fucking thing this country needs right now IS ANOTHER FUCKING WAR!

-launching missiles into the Sea of Japan (as
a clear threat to the Japanese) for years! yet
they have the right to push the ROK around
for carrying out routine exercises? Rolling Eyes

The last thing on this Earth that the world needs is for the United States to involve itself in another war Rolling Eyes

That being said,I think that the North is bargaining that China will have its back and that the U.S. wont intervene militarily because of the already heavy global criticisms over the Iraq war.But they are greatly miscalculating.

In a lengthy battle the North probably could outlast Seuol but only sadly because Kim Jong has stolen all of the resources of his nation and tranverted them into finance for the Pyongyang war machine much liek Hitler did to our Germany 70 years ago.

I I couldnt agree more Gonz, which is why I am hoping that this is more just an act of foolishness on part of North Korea and not some CIA plot/scheme to get us involved.

As far as an update the death toll rose to 4 over the weekend and the U.S. and S.K. have been doing military excercises in the Yellow Sea since yesterday meaning that both governments are expected Pyongyang to make good on its threats to attack again "If provoked".

What i still dont get is what the fuck "provoked" them to even start with lol.All was quite on the western front according to Seuol and most eye witnesses. scratch

They have to know that a war will be worse for them then it will be for Seuol seeing that we got its back lol.

What they hell is Kim Jong doing?or is someone else in charge?

Agreed, even if South and North decide to go at it,we should stay put.Our economy cannot survive another conflict that takes a billion dollars a week to fight.Hopefully the Democratic White House will not allow us to intervene although there will be pressure from both sides for us to do so anyway.

I do also agree that this sudden assault by North Korean forces seems more suspect than coenidental that it would occure right as America forces begin pulling out of Iraq.I dont know if I would blame the cause on any indirect involvement of the CIA but I think that Pyongyang may just be firing a few salvos to get our attention while we are war weary. They are playing a dangerous game of chicken with the worlds most advanced military though.

Yes,it looks like a publicity stunt by Pyongyang as I would imagine their strain for resources to support and feed themselves is growing even more desperate by the year. They almost need a war now so that the acting regime can be overthrown and foriegn assistance can finally be sent in.

The media and politicians of the EU and washington are wrong, its not paranoia its fear.......fear of what happens when they can teven feed their own military.

You know you might be on to something there Gonzie.I mean North Korea is making all of these babyish and random petty requests from the United States like asking Eric Clapton to come do a concert in Pyong Yang because Kim Jong Il's son is a big fan Cool .

They arent like the Arabs though,I think the reason why they keep resisting democracy is out of paranoia and fear that the whole world si as rotten and the world thinks and percives them as.However at the same time they know that they are runnign out of time and resources to put on a front similar to that one put on by the Soviet Union during the Cold War era.

But I have a feeling that North Korea is going to just implode from too much poverty, corruption and political clout.Either via assassination of Kim and his right hand men,a massive uprising of North Koean people or a military cout de tat',mark my words...something is going to be alot different about how the world veiws NK in less than 5 years.
