| Hey guys I was just skimming through some articles and found this tragic story about this young 22 year old mother that was gunned down on her front lawn by her jealous ex-boyfreind 4 years ago:
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2008/11/kenner_murdersuicide_binds_fam.html
According to police,he parked around the side of her house so she wouldnt see him,and then as she was driven home by her current boyfreind and he walked up to her as she approached the front door and shot her point blank twice in the face before killing himself.
This is a story that makes me sick to my stomach, but sadly a story that is repeated everyday in the United States and throughout the world.Women are 10 times more likely to be killed in Domestic violence altercations and make up for 96.6 % of all domestic abuse cases.I was also shocked to find out that 1 in every 4 girls women have been the victim of some kind of sexual or phsyical abuse within their life time and usually by the hands of a spouse, boyfreind or family member.

Now an easy answer to what can be done to avoid this kind of tragedy is carry mace, firearms, get family members involved etc. .But the truth is its not that easy. The phsycological attributes of domestic issues such as break ups, arguments, threats, bullying etc. plays a major roll in the determination of the severity of domestic violence.I have had coworkers and freinds in the past that have told me horror stories about these types of problems and alot of women complain that trying to distance themselves from an abusive boyfreind or husband or family member only makes matters worse, and I have noticed that in many cases Ive seen where a tragic loss of life is involved it only inflames the matter;the abuser becomes a stalker,or even more threatening and violent.
While I am a sole believer in girl power, feminimity, gender equality and female individuality I also understand that because of the usual physical and yes even emotional inferiority of female human beings we are sadly much mure susceptible to become victims of this kind of abuse and not be able to find a way out in time.
But there are ways out, there are ways to avoid problems and problemed people before it begins of escalates into abuse and violence.I thank God have never in my life had to deal with anything like this on any level within my family or other personal relationships.
I just wanted a little feedback to know what you guys thought about possible solutions and advice that could be given to women that are having these types of problems. |

Hmmm.. good question.. It's easy to say not to date/get into a relationship with an aggressive guy... but some peoples 'true colours' dont come out months into a relationship. While Domestic abuse is common in Australia, because of our restricted gun laws, it's not often anything is fatal - but still serious in all the same.. I seriously don't understand how anyone can physically harm a woman intentionally unless in self defence, let alone murder one..
Sorry Lillian, I really don't know the answer to this, other then don't date or commit to aggressive/dominant men if perceived to be... |

Press charges, get a restraining order, make sure your car has an active alarm system, dye your hair, eye contacts, wardrobe make-over, plastic surgery, change your name, change your profession, move in with friends/family/abroad or near a police station, install a home security system, get a dog (a real one, lol), hire a body guard, join a support group, join some type of martial arts class, etc... |
